Bad and good options for moving in the city

Moving in the city has some unique problems associated with it. It’s different than moving around suburbia. Of course, canceling your lease is pretty easy compared to selling a home—but once that’s done it gets harder. Here are the worst possible options for moving in the city, and one good option, and the reasons why they are what they are.

  1. Taxis. This is possibly the worst option ever. Taxis have limited storage space and they are very expensive. Unless you are living out of suitcase you probably want something bigger and less pricy. Plus, how are you going to move that couch—and will he run the clock while you load it?
  2. The bus. This IS the worst option out there. No room and people will be mad—provided you actually get the bus driver to let you in. You can move some clothes in luggage this way, but don’t think you can get away with anything more.
  3. Friends. Which of your friends has a truck in the city? Really, you can run some smaller furniture in friends’ cars, and use them to help you move in, but convincing them might be difficult plus you still won’t be able to get that bed around.
  4. Car rentals. These are becoming much more popular and are great for running across town to get cheap groceries. But moving? Much like using a friend’s car you have to deal with parking and you’ll need help to watch the car, get the doors, and move the stuff. Friends don’t like doing this. They really don’t. Also, while pickups ARE available for rent that still means you need to be able to drive it. To drive it in the city. Good luck.

And the GOOD idea? Look up moving companies in Chicago. These guys are professional, they don’t complain, they’ll get the doors, drive, worry about parking, and they can get the job done fast any day you choose to do it. It’s worth it. You’ll never know how much it’s worth it , until you try both. Just trust me on this. It’s worth it.
